If we average that figure out to 30%, that would mean a person has to make $5,000 a month income for L.A., $7,500 a month income for San Fran and $10,750 a month income for living in N.Y. The commonly thrown around figures for comfortable living within one’s means says you should only spend 25% to 35% of your income on rent.
